The series taked [sic] place in the 2020s, when self-driving cars are ubiquitous in Japan. The manga centers on Kanata Livington, a Japanese driver who goes back to Japan after graduating at the top of his class at a racing school in England. The series also focuses on the MFG, a racing circuit on public roads that has garnered attention worldwide.

MF Ghost
does not appear to be a direct sequel to
Initial D
, it does contain references for
D
fans to speculate over:
We probably won’t see an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! -level of detail on what our autonomous future could look like, but we will see other technologies that were’t around for Initial D . For one thing, MFG races are filmed using drones. And of course, we can look forward to new cars:
